Roots & Culture is the shop associated with Channel One Sound System. It has been trading as one of London's only roots and culture specialists since 2000.
The Roots and Culture shop was first based in Camden then moved to Stratford market till March 2003 and finally to Leytonstone road, Stratford where it traded until October 2005. Channel One is one of the World’s top Sound Systems playing Roots & Culture music. With owners Jah T and Mikey Dread, the set up has been trodding the road for over 25 years.
We have supported top reggae artists like the late Dennis Brown, Burning Spear, Mighty Diamonds, Mad Professor and many others. This year Channel One will be celebrating over 20 years playing in Europe’s biggest street festival, the Notting Hill Carnival in London.
In the last 12 months we have toured Italy, France, Finland, Switzerland, Belgium, Israel and Sweden, New Zealand and Australia. There is a stall where you can buy your music at most Channel One Sound System sessions.
